KiScon 2024 Communicable Disease Policy
In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, influenza, and other communicable diseases please ensure that you are as up to date on your vaccinations as possible before attending the convention.
Our fandom skews older. We have a lot of folks who are at higher risk due to having less robust immune systems. Not everyone is able to vaccinate. That is why it is imperative that those of us who can, do so.
MASKING AND PERSONAL RISK MANAGEMENT:
People have a variety of comfort levels when it comes to interacting in public these days. It is our goal to make KiScon as safe and inclusive an in-person event as possible, while allowing people to make their own decisions about their personal levels of acceptable risk.
Masking is strongly encouraged, but not required.
In addition we will have stickers that you can put on your con badge to indicate your level of comfort with physical contact:
Red – "Please stay six feet away from me."
Yellow – "Elbow bumps!"
Green – "Hugging okay!"
COLLECTIVE RISK MANAGEMENT:
We will have masks available.
We will have hand sanitiser available.
We will have air filtration systems set up wherever possible within the convention space.
IF YOU BECOME SICK RIGHT BEFORE THE CONVENTION:
Please do not attend the in-person convention while sick. You can still attend via the online programming track and we will roll over your registration payment (minus the cost of online attendance) as a credit towards the next in-person convention.
Rolling over registration credit for non-communicable-disease-related last minute cancellations will be handled on a case by case basis.
IF YOU BECOME SICK DURING THE CONVENTION:
If you develop symptoms of respiratory illness during the convention, please put on a mask immediately to reduce the risk of spreading illness to others.
If you test positive for COVID-19 or influenza during the convention please self-isolate and attend via the online track. We will roll over all or some of your registration payment (minus the cost of online attendance) as a credit towards the next in-person convention depending on what day of the con you tested positive.
